The Nursing Centre at Monash University

Gilly Johnson, Director of The Nursing Centre, recently visited the Frankston Campus of Monash University to share some time with their 3rd year Bachelor of Nursing students.  It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic nurses ready to step out into the nursing world.

During the talk, Gilly encouraged these new nurses to remember:

  • Nurses are one of the most trusted professions in the world - be proud to be a nurse!
  • Remember that patients are at the centre of your nursing practice and that sometimes it's the small things that you do for and with patients that will be remembers.
  • To feel excited and empowered about your nursing career and to remember that your nursing career is in your hands.
  • To value the human side of nursing and remember to focus on the whole person - sometimes this means putting aside your own challenges for the day and focussing on how the patient may be feeling as they arrive to the medical facility.

We do wish all the students who attended a successul conclusion to the exam time and their final clinical placements, and we feel excited to see the passion that will be heading the nursing professions way!

Our thanks to the lecturing team for the invitation to visit and speak, and to the student nurses who provided such wonderful feedback.

Gilly Johnson :)
